Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry make history
On Sunday, Rory McIlroy became the 4th golfer ever—and the first since Tiger Woods—to win consecutive Masters tournaments. (More)
Rory’s longtime friend, Shane Lowry, also made history over the weekend.
Lowry, who first met Rory as young golfers in Ireland, became the only player to record more than one Masters hole-in-one (2016 and 2026).
How common is a hole-in-one at the Masters?
In the 90 playings of the Masters, there have been 35 holes-in-one.
In fact, most Masters tournaments pass without any holes-in-one at all. Only 14 were recorded in the entire pre-2000 era (66 years).
Entering this past weekend, there had been three straight ace-less Masters—the longest dry spell in the modern era.
